I drove out to Sedona to paint the famed Cathedral Rock on a balmy afternoon. It was hot and humid and the light on the Buttes was not really to my liking but I was there to paint so off I went. It was one of those days where the rock face was lit and moments later it was overcast. I was just happy to be there so it didn't bother me. As I settled in, a golden eagle glided not 15 feet in front of my line of sight along the path of the river. It was a startling and spiritual moment as the bird majestically arced upward and into the surrounding hills.
